- EAL ACADEMY TRAINING ATTENDEE
- Our goal is to be simple, straightforward, and of the highest quality, so it's intentional that we offer "one and done" training experiences, with no future financial investment. We train in small groups so everyone participates and receives personal coaching. We provide future support for your EAL program. We support answering your questions, providing some consultation, and we connect you with our community of prior training attendees.
- We offer accelerated trainings so you're ready to facilitate and coach EAL programs right after attending. There's pre-work to complete prior to the training. By studying materials ahead of time, there’s more time to spend learning with the horses, and for discussion to cover the important core topics; including marketing, business practices, safety, necessary resources, activity design, program design, etc.
- In addition to learning how to facilitate group EAL experiences, we also train on somatic awareness and how to integrate this with deep one-on-one experiences with horses, which you experience during our trainings.
- We provide extensive training materials that include a library of forms, templates, tools, and samples, designed by EAL Academy and based on our 20+ years of experience providing our own EAL client programs and 15+ years of experience training others to facilitate EAL. Prior attendees have referred to these tools as a "business in a box" that enables you to start your EAL program right after the training. You simply add your logo and business information to leverage these best practice tools.
- With our 4-day EAL Facilitator Certification Training, the path to certification is straight forward and doesn't require multiple trainings and/or steps to gain certification status. There is more information here about our Certification Training, along with the certification requirements. This is a lifetime certification that doesn't require future investments, membership or continuing education to maintain your certification status. You choose when you want to invest in continuing education and our goal is to earn your continuing education investments.
- Our EAL Facilitator model is different, so please see the information below.
Simply put, there isn't another EAL training organization that provides this depth of experience, at this price point, within this timeframe, and with this simplicity.
Many attend our training after attending competitor trainings; with us they gain more confidence in their facilitation skills, more horse activities, and discover new ways to grow their EAL businesses.
We're confident that if you host 1-3 EAL programs with paying clients based on a pricing model we share and the techniques we teach, you'll likely recoup your training expenses.
- Prior Experience: We don’t require professional qualifications or degrees to be trained by or certified by us. Our model is based on providing learning experiences with horses, which anyone can legally provide within the learning or coaching context. Specifically, our model does not require a licensed mental health professional as part of the EAL facilitation team. During our EAL Facilitator Certification training, we review the professional importance of staying within the learning context and we teach techniques to do so. Although our training is based on an experiential coaching model (a non-therapeutic model), all the techniques and horse activities can be utilized in a therapeutic setting by professionals with the necessary credentials to offer therapeutic services.
- Facilitation Team: We recommend, but don't require, the best practice of 2 or more facilitators to have the most effective facilitation team and effectively manage safety for group programs, where all members of the facilitation team understand horses and have strong facilitation skills. Horses are equal co-facilitators in the client experience. We partner with horses for their wisdom and we, as facilitators, translate their feedback for clients. Horse consent and well-being, along with physical and emotional safety for people and horses, are the top priorities.
- Voice and Values: We believe your best EAL program is built based on your voice and values, including your approach to horsemanship. We believe the best facilitation and coaching experiences happen when you are authentic and integrate your passions. During our trainings, we'll review how to bring your voice and values to your EAL program.
- Future Certification Requirements & Accreditation: With our EAL Facilitator Certification, intentionally there aren't any future requirements to maintain certification after you've attended our training and have passed the Self-Test for certification status as an EAL Facilitator. Certification is issued from EAL Academy based on our in-depth experience with EAL since 2003 and providing high quality EAL training and certification since 2007. Our training quality, content, and approach differentiates us from our competitors; 99.9% of our prior training attendees recommend our trainings to others and their overall average rating of our training experience is 6.9 on a 7 point scale. Based on these results, our values, and financial focus, we have intentionally decided not to be governed or accredited by another organization. Our model doesn't require a long term investment and training attendees can recoup their training expenses by holding a few programs with paying clients; which means there’s very low risk with investing in our trainings. The advantage with our approach is you're empowered to make the best decisions for your program. Although we deeply value continuing education, it’s not required by us and we believe strongly in earning your future continuing education investments.
Many different names have been used for learning experiences based on the horse-human connection, some of them are:
A related field of psychotherapy/counseling with horses has been referred to by many names and here are a few:
Therapeutic Riding has been referred to as:

In 2020, the Equine-Assisted Services industry aligned terminology for services with horses in the areas of learning, psychotherapy, therapeutic riding, and horsemanship. You can learn more here. The new terminology is an improvement for our industry, although clients of these services will continue to have difficulty connecting with much of the industry terminology. When describing your business programs and services to your prospective clients, consider simple language that is easy for them to understand, i.e., "learning with horses" rather than "equine assisted learning." We cover this important topic during our training programs.
Are you a therapist looking to grow your business by offering learning programs with horses?
Many therapists are looking to expand into learning programs because Equine Assisted Learning has a stronger financial model, and many therapists find facilitating learning programs to be very rewarding. Although we teach a non-therapeutic coaching model of facilitation, two of our founders are therapists and we can help you augment your therapy business to incorporate learning programs.
"Horses live in the present moment; to be a great EAL facilitator we need to join them there and be courageously authentic.”
